There is extreme risk to personal security in some parts of Iran. We advise against travelling beyond Bam and Bandar Abbas. In mid May 2006 12 people, murdered by bandits, were found along the Bam to Kerman road.
The following areas are considered to be high risk and we advise against all tourist and non-essential travel. Avoid border areas with Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Avoid travelling overland to Pakistan, Afghanistan and Sistan va Baluchistan. The towns of Zahedan, Zabol and Mirjaveh are particularly dangerous. Sistan va Baluchistan is an area traversed by drug traffickers from Afghanistan and Pakistan and should be avoided.
Elsewhere there is some risk to personal security. Be security conscious. Avoid crowded/landmark places.
