There is a high risk to your security in Sudan and we advise against all tourist and non-essential travel.
While a Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed in January 2005 tensions remain. Despite the Darfur Peace Agreement being signed in May 2006, some militia groups continue with attacks. Areas where there is an extreme risk and we advise against all travel are as follows:
Chadian border with Darfur: we advise against all travel. There is extreme risk to your security. Widespread banditry.
Eastern Sudan: situation tense because of fighting by rebel militia against the government. There is extreme risk to your safety in the area by the Eritrean border and against non-essential travel to Kassala.
Southern Sudan: we advise against all travel south of Juba and within 40 kms of border with Democratic Republic of the Congo.
