There is extreme risk to your security in Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding region as it is a disputed area. We advise against all travel there.
There is some risk to your security in the rest of Azerbaijan due to risks from terrorist activity and civil unrest and we advise caution.
We advise against all travel to Nagorno-Karabakh and the military occupied area surrounding it. This is a disputed area between Azerbaijan and Armenia Despite the ceasefire in place, there is a risk of sporadic armed conflict. There are also landmines in the area.
Throughout the rest of Azerbaijan, we recommend you exercise caution. There is a risk of terrorist activity throughout the country. Although any attack is unlikely to be directed against foreigners, New Zealanders could be caught up in an indiscriminate attack.
Demonstrations in Azerbaijan can become violent. You are advised to avoid large political gatherings or demonstrations.
New Zealanders travelling or resident in Azerbaijan should have comprehensive medical and travel insurance policies in place that include provision for medical evacuation by air.
New Zealanders visiting or living in Azerbaijan are encouraged to record their details with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
