There is some risk to your security in Qatar due to the threat from terrorism and we advise caution.
Terrorists continue to issue statements threatening to carry out attacks in the Gulf region. These include references to attacks against Western interests, including residential compounds, military, oil, transport and aviation interests.
In March 2005 a suicide bomb attack in Doha outside a theatre frequented by foreigners killed one person and injured twelve others. Further attacks cannot be ruled out.
Political developments in Qatar and the region could trigger demonstrations and protests. New Zealand travellers are advised to keep themselves informed of such developments and avoid all demonstrations and protests.
New Zealanders are advised to respect religious and social traditions in Qatar to avoid offending local sensitivities. Modesty and discretion should be exercised in both dress and behaviour.
New Zealanders travelling or resident in Qatar should have comprehensive medical and travel insurance policies in place.
