Exercise increased caution with higher advice levels in some areas

Overview

There are more significant safety or security concerns than you would usually find in New Zealand because of the threat of violent crime.

Other things that New Zealanders travelling or living in Angola should be aware of are:

  • Civil unrest/political tension—demonstrations and protests can disrupt travel plans. Avoid these and follow the instructions of local authorities.
  • Kidnapping – foreigners may be targeted. Beware of attempts to stop your vehicle. Make security arrangements as needed.
  • Shortages – plan for there to be shortages of food, water and fuel for days without notice.
