Exercise increased caution with higher advice levels in some areas

Overview

There are more significant safety or security concerns than you would usually find in New Zealand. Higher levels apply in some areas. There is a high threat of terrorism and kidnapping. Levels of violent crime are high.

Other things that New Zealanders travelling or living in Cameroon should be aware of are:

  • Civil unrest—protests, demonstrations and strikes are common. They may disrupt local public services and transport. Leave the area quickly and follow the advice of local authorities.
  • Piracy – take appropriate precautionary measures.
  • Crime – assault, muggings and armed robbery are common in urban areas. Petty theft is common on transportation services. Be careful of your security at all times.
