Exercise increased caution with higher advice levels in some areas

Overview

There are more significant safety or security concerns than you would usually find in New Zealand. Higher levels apply in some areas.

There is a threat of terrorism and violent crime including armed robbery, home invasion and carjacking. Be aware of your personal security at all times.

Other things that New Zealanders travelling or living in Côte d’Ivoire should be aware of are:

  • Terrorism – monitor the media for updates and follow the advice of local authorities.
  • Civil unrest – demonstrations happen and have led to violence. Avoid all protests and gatherings.
  • Transport – plan your journey carefully and don’t use public transport or travel after dark.
