Exercise increased caution

Overview

There are more significant safety or security concerns than you would usually find in New Zealand. Watch out for crime, such as theft and assault, especially at night. Keep track of your belongings at all times, and avoid poorly lit areas and walking alone at night.

Other things that New Zealanders travelling or living in Fiji should be aware of are:

  • Credit card fraud—take extra care when paying with your credit card or using ATMs.
  • Tropical cyclone season, which runs from November to April. If a cyclone or tsunami happens, follow the advice of local authorities.
  • Activities like boating and scuba diving—check that your insurance policy covers any activities you’re doing, and make sure there is adequate safety gear, such as life jackets.
