Exercise increased caution with higher advice levels in some areas

Overview

There are more significant safety or security concerns than you would usually find in New Zealand, with some areas where you should not travel.

Some things that New Zealanders travelling or living in Panama should be aware of are:

  • Crime – violent crime, such as armed robbery and assault, can happen. Petty crime is common especially in urban areas and transport hubs.
  • Civil unrest – protests and demonstrations can happen and may disrupt local services and transport.
  • Local laws – make sure you understand laws around illegal drugs and photography of official buildings.
