Qatar

Terrorists have, and continue to threaten to carry out attacks in the Gulf region. These include references to attacks on Western interests, including residential compounds, as well as places of worship, military, oil, transport and aviation interests. Terrorists are likely to try and carry out attacks in Qatar.
Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) The Ugandan government has declared an outbreak of EVD caused by Sudan virus in Uganda. The virus is transmitted to people from wild animals (such as fruit bats, porcupines and non-human primates). EVD is not easily spread between people but can be transmitted by direct contact with infected bodily fluids (such as blood, saliva, urine, vomit or faeces) and contaminated surfaces or materials (such as bedding and clothing).

Political/Security Situation
A transitional government has been in place since May 2021, with presidential elections postponed until after 2024. Monitor local media for updates.
There is a heightened risk of increased instability in Mali due to the withdrawal of the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) and following the military takeover in neighbouring Niger in July 2023.
Iraq
As there is no New Zealand diplomatic presence in Iraq, the ability of the government to assist New Zealand citizens requiring consular assistance is severely limited. We offer advice to New Zealanders about contingency planning that travellers to Iraq should consider.
