Some countries have rules that don’t allow people to enter if they have a criminal conviction. It might not matter how serious the crime was, or how much time has passed. If you have a criminal record, you may need a visa even if you are travelling to a visa-free or visa waiver country.
Border control authorities in another country may also refuse you entry even if you have a visa.
The New Zealand government cannot resolve immigration violation issues for New Zealand travellers.
All New Zealand citizens with a criminal record are urged to consult with the relevant country's embassy or immigration authority to check that they meet the host country's entry requirements well in advance of their departure. Confirm if you need a visa to travel.
