There are significant threats to New Zealanders travelling to Burkina Faso. You should leave as soon as it is safe. 

There is a high threat of terrorism and terrorist attacks which could happen at anytime, anywhere. The security situation is volatile. There is a high threat of kidnapping. 

New Zealand has no diplomatic presence in Burkina Faso, so the Government’s ability to provide consular assistance to New Zealanders there is limited. 

Other things that New Zealanders travelling or living in Burkina Faso should be aware of are:

• Crime – theft and street crime happens and foreigners can be targeted.
• Banditry – there are security threats caused by armed criminals attacking vehicles and buses.
