Exercise normal safety and security precautions

Overview

There are more significant safety or security concerns than you would usually find in New Zealand. Terrorist groups and individuals continue to make threats to conduct attacks in Finland and across Europe. Follow any instructions issued by the local authorities and be vigilant in public places, particularly at tourist sites, shopping areas and transport hubs.

New Zealanders travelling or living in Finland should also be aware of:

  • Crime – petty crime such as pickpocketing is common in cities, tourist areas and public transport.
  • Border areas - Finland closed all land border crossings with Russia from 30 November 2023. Check the Finnish Border Guard website for details of border closures.
