Exercise increased caution with higher advice levels in some areas

Overview

There are more significant safety or security concerns than you would usually find in New Zealand. Indonesia has a higher threat of terrorism, and areas where tourists and foreigners visit, such as embassies, hotels, and bars, are possible targets.

Other things that New Zealanders travelling or living in Indonesia should be aware of are:

  • Civil unrest.
  • Earthquakes and other seismic activity.
  • Crime.
  • Traffic accidents, especially involving motorbikes and scooters.
  • Safety incidents in travel by boat or air.
