Myanmar and Thailand earthquake

Two large earthquakes struck central Myanmar on 28 March 2025. A significant 7.7 magnitude earthquake with an epicentre 16km northwest of Sagaing, near the city Mandalay and a subsequent 6.4 magnitude aftershock which struck shortly after with and epicentre 18km south of Sagaing.

The 7.7 magnitude earthquake was also felt strongly in Thailand, including in Bangkok.

New Zealanders in Myanmar and Thailand are advised to follow the advice of local authorities at all times, including any evacuation orders.
