Exercise increased caution with higher advice levels in some areas

Overview

There are more significant safety or security concerns than you would usually find in New Zealand. Thailand has experienced regular large-scale political demonstrations in Bangkok and other cities in Thailand.

Other things that New Zealanders travelling or living in Thailand should be aware of are:

  • Terrorism—there is an ongoing threat of terrorism in cities and tourist destinations.
  • Crime—Watch out for petty crime, such as theft and drink-spiking, especially in tourist areas, and on public transport.
  • Road safety—road accidents are common, often causing death or serious injury. Motorcyclists and pedestrians are most at risk.
