Protests have been occurring across Türkiye since March 19, 2025. Large-scale demonstrations may include roadblocks and disrupt traffic and public transportation. A protest ban is in effect across many Turkish cities, which includes restrictions to freedom of movement for those suspected of participating in protests. This is expected to be strictly enforced. We recommend New Zealanders in these areas to follow instructions of local authorities.
There are more significant safety or security concerns than you would usually find in New Zealand due to the heightened risk of terrorism. There have been terrorist attacks in Türkiye, including in places visited by foreigners.
