There are significant threats to New Zealanders in Syria. The security situation is extremely dangerous. There is an extreme threat from terrorism throughout Syria. A large number of foreign nationals have been kidnapped. Violent crime is commonplace.
As there is no New Zealand diplomatic presence in Syria, the ability of the government to assist New Zealand citizens requiring consular assistance is severely limited.
Armed groups have taken control of the city of Aleppo and clashes are ongoing throughout north-west Syria, including the cities of Damascus, Aleppo, Idlib, Hama and Homs.
