Do not travel

Do not travel to Belarus due to the volatile security situation caused by the Russian military action in neighbouring Ukraine and the conducting of military operations by Russian forces from Belarus (level 4 of 4). New Zealanders in Belarus should leave immediately if they judge it is safe to do so. 

New Zealand’s ability to provide consular assistance to New Zealanders in Belarus is very limited. The security situation in Belarus could change at short notice and New Zealanders should not rely on support with evacuating in these circumstances.

Belarus

Routes out of the country are limited, particularly by air, as many countries have banned Belarusian airlines from flying over their airspace. This includes all EU member states, the UK and Ukraine. Minsk International airport as well as Belarusian land border operations with Poland, Lithuania and Latvia are currently still open but this could change at short notice. Expect and prepare for lengthy waits at borders by ensuring you have an adequate supply of food, water, medication and fuel.

Belarus/Russia Border

There is a changing situation in regard to the rules and regulations when crossing the border between Belarus and Russia. If you intend to cross the Belarus/Russia border, we strongly recommend you contact the nearest Russian Embassy and nearest Belarusian Embassy for clear advice on current requirements for entry and exit. 

New Zealanders travelling or living in Belarus should have comprehensive medical and travel insurance policies in place that include provision for medical evacuation by air.

New Zealanders travelling or living in Belarus are encouraged to register their details with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
